Note from Pres Ted N3TR!
A great big THANKS to everyone for making yesterday's picnic a success! Great weather, great food and 20m was wide open, Florida, Ohio, Alabama, Alaska, Germany twice, Russia, and many more I forgot about! Thanks to Mike, Bob and Greg for their radios and antennas, special thanks to Phil for bringing the gas grill. I've attached a pic of Don "sharp shooter" Gibbs firing the air cannon for Bob's end fed antenna.

Hello Everyone,
Along with Ted, I wanted to say a big thank you for coming out and helping out at the SLRC picnic at Muddy Run Park. Yes, it was a success! Thanks for volunteering to bring supplies and equipment needed to make it happen! I want to give a big shout out to Mote, who helped us jump start the grill and give a few expert tips on grilling to Mark and me. Great job on the grilling, Mark! Also, I want to give a big shout out to Mike who brought his Icom 718 and his Wolf River Coil antenna which was set up out in the open in front of the pavilion. Along with that, I also want to thank Bob for setting up his Xiegu G-90 portable radio outside the back right side of the pavilion working his sloper antenna which Don K3DG shot up in the trees with little effort with his sharp shooting skills! I also want to thank Bob for cranking some serious DX contacts on my Icom 746 Pro which was set up under the right side of the pavilion. Thanks again to Don for shooting up my 20M dipole into the trees. He did it with ease from the comfort of his chair.
We put the SLRC on the DX map! Thank you all for jumping on the radios and making contacts (log book one) and (log book two)to the Slovak Republic, Servia, Russia, Italy, Germany, Belarus, and a few more European countries. Also, we made contacts to Kentucky, Florida, Louisiana, Ohio, Michigan, Alaska, California, Alabama, New Mexico and our neighboring state, Maryland. The center fed dipole was up about 30 feet in the tree to the right of the pavilion and sloped to the commercial telephone pole out in the field to the left side of the pavilion. We need to remember that configuration for next year! The best part we didn't have any buzzing noise from the high-tension wires on the huge towers nearby.
It was great to have all the radios under the pavilion because it brought us all closer together so we could eat, socialize and watch all the DX contacts that were made instead of being isolated in the field away from everyone. Even if we would have gotten rain, our equipment would have been sheltered and we would have kept operating with the exception from thunderstorms.
I also want to thank all the wives for helping out moving the food around at the picnic and preparing all the food. (Guys too.) Everyone did a great job helping out and also for being there. I want to thank Phil, K3PJM for bringing up his grill so we could have great food.
Thank you, Ted, for inviting the pre-marine kids in training up to the pavilion to check out our radio setups. We handed out information about the club and also talked about emergency communications. They seemed to be interested in Amateur Radio and thought about what would happen if their cell phones, land lines and internet went down.
Again, thank you all for making the Picnic a success and a lot of fun!
